Best hotel downtown, accommodations for groups with a great indoor pool and outdoor grill and basketball court. Staff was incredibly friendly and breakfast was consistently amazing our whole stay. Close to the river walk, capital building, and Iowa cubs. Clean, great service and great location.

Downtown is great loaction. Parking is big issue in Downtown though. Rooms are big and lavish. Kitchen is good. All the utensils were clean. Room service can be better. Great riverside view from rooms.

I would like to share what a great experience we have had at the Residence Inn By Marriott - DesMoines Downtown. My has been staying here for two months for work and came two weeks ago to celebrate my 70th birthday. I would start with the staff here. They are detailed oriented and professional. I have been greeted with smiles morning when come for breakfast and coffee. Chef Rosa beautiful and her food is always hot and she is very professional and helpful. The display and presentation of her food is great. She gets 5 stars alone. I found that is married to the building engineer Jose and helped my daughter when her earrings fell down the while putting them on yesterday! He and took pipes apart under the sink to retrieve them. I to give him 5 stars also. I have truly my stay here. Checking out today. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Stayed here for a week. Overall the rooms are really nice, beds are comfortable. Our room came with a full kitchen with appliances and good sized living room and bathroom, BUT the shower was VERY unstable, especially before noon. The sudden temperature change between hot and cold drove me crazy, and the constant water pressure change makes showering a rough experience when it should be relaxing. I wonder if it has to do with us being on the highest level. If you are a light sleeper, the train tracks are close by and can be loud at night. Sometimes the whole building shakes when trains are passing through. We are heavy sleepers so it didn’t really bother us. If they fix the showers I’ll give it a five stars.

We spent 4 nights at the residence in downtown Des Moines in June 2024. It was during the heat wave but the hotel was well air conditioned so it was comfortable inside. I was a bit concerned about this hotel due to many of the negative reviews. However, we had a very good experience overall and the service was wonderful. As of this review 6/20/24, The hotel appears to be undergoing renovations so some hallway areas (floors 3&4) look nice while the rest (main, 2,5) are awaiting. So, all the floors will probably be much more pleasant after the Reno is complete. The common area is nice for gatherings. What shined however is the service. The folks at the front are very helpful and try to make your stay the best it can be. Tommy Nguyen the assistant manager was stellar, polite, welcoming, and helpful. The room service lady was also sweet and asked if I needed additional items that I didn’t even think of.

Everything about this place was magical! I think her name was maddy at front desk, shes a gem!! Love her, they also have a jacuzzi they keep open later for adults, they have a fire pit in back you can sit at, just a great all around hotel. Only complaint is me and my guest came down for the fire at night and they man at the desk was doing weird stuff on his phone and lets just say he shouldnt be doing that at work.. made us very uncomfortable... Other then that interaction.. it was perfection!

Raniya is the absolute kindest employee. She has compassion and integrity that went beyond the front desk. Rooms are comfortable and the third floor was quiet.

The rooms were clean and well stocked. The location is central to downtown and the river walk. I would suggest asking for a courtyard view room when checking in, as there is a train that honks loudly at nearby grade crossings, when we were there it was at night. Tommy the front desk was very helpful answering questions and taking care of requests promptly. He is a star employee!
